Rockhurst Highschool

A school pool’s mechanical systems work in a demanding environment, where ventilation and heating must support the space’s daily use. At Rockhurst High School, Innovative Mechanical Concepts’ equipment replacement project centers on upgrading the pool area’s exterior air supply unit and integrating it with the building’s existing infrastructure. Located in a ground-level fenced enclosure beside the pool, the installation calls for coordinated crane work, custom sheet metal fabrication, gas and electrical connections, controls integration, and detailed commissioning.

The project begins with planning the equipment delivery, crane access, and pool downtime with school facilities staff. Before installation, the existing gas pressure, electrical capacity, concrete pad, wall opening, and compatibility with the pool exhaust system must be confirmed. IMC’s scope includes mechanical permitting and inspection coordination, followed by isolating the existing utilities, disconnecting the equipment, and removing the old CFA 22 unit and support stand. Crane and rigging services allow the existing equipment to be lifted out and the replacement positioned within the enclosure.

The new CFA 25 unit is installed on an anchored vertical stand, then leveled and secured. A custom-fabricated supply transition connects its side discharge to the existing opening through the pool’s exterior wall. This connection requires accurate measurements, proper supports, sealed joints, and weatherproofing to tie the new equipment into the interior ductwork. The specified supply duty is 13,000 cubic feet of air per minute, making the fit between the equipment, transition, and existing air distribution system an essential part of the installation.

IMC’s utility work includes new gas piping between the existing stub-out and the replacement unit, complete with a strainer, shutoff valve, sediment trap, union, and flexible connection. Pressure testing and purging prepare the piping for operation. Electrical work includes a new outdoor-rated fused disconnect, the final power connection to the unit, grounding and bonding, and required field wiring. Together, these connections bring the replacement equipment into the existing building services through a carefully defined installation scope.

Inside the pool area, a wall-mounted touchscreen interface gives facilities staff access to operating settings and system information. The controls scope includes communication cabling, configuration of the unit’s communication addresses, verification of the interface, and coordination of the cellular connectivity kit. Startup then moves beyond simply turning on the equipment: IMC’s commissioning scope includes fan drive programming, rotation checks, safety device testing, combustion verification at low and high fire, and documentation of gas pressures, temperature rise, fan static pressure, and operating speed.

The project concludes with a commissioning report, manufacturer startup documentation, warranty registration, and an operator walkthrough covering controls, filter access, and recommended maintenance. For Rockhurst High School, the work brings equipment replacement, construction coordination, and operational handoff into one complete mechanical scope. It reflects IMC’s attention to the full installation, from the support beneath the unit to the information facilities staff need to operate and maintain it.
